HOMEWORK
Per LAUSD guidelines, students in 5th grade should get 50-60 minutes of homework each night, plus reading. This is a guideline and some students will require more time, while other will need less. Use your best judgment in terms of gauging time spent on homework, maintaining a healthy balance of family, fun, and academics.
Daily homework will be conveyed (which students should write down in their planners) at the end of each school day, and students can expect homework to be assigned Monday-Thursday. The 25-30 minutes of reading is something that should be done every day, not just Monday-Thursday. In addition to daily homework and the expected reading, students will need to establish a routine for the daily review and studying of material covered in Science and Social Studies. There will also be long-term assignments/projects that students will be working on, and they must budget their time wisely over the length of time for the assignment to ensure that it is completed on time.
A typical night of homework should look something like this:

Memorized Monologue - Week of March 30 - April 2
Students will select, memorize, and perform a 45-90 second monologue.
Monologues can come from movies, television, or plays.
You may find your own or use one of the monologues in the attached pdf.
